Before commencing on your Safari, you need to decide where you want your trophies mounted, and by whom.
You have 2 options: Having the Taxidermy done in South Africa, or back home.
Option 1: Mounts done in South Africa
Once your trophy is shot, we will skin the animal according to how you want it mounted, be it a shoulder, full, pedestal mount or flat skin. You can also ask your PH his advice on what he thinks is the best way to present the animal.
We suggest keeping more of the skin than less. The taxidermist can always discard of any skins you no longer wish to keep.
Trophy tags and brochures will be available in camp and your PH and tracker will ensure your trophies are well tagged.
When the animal is skinned, the skin and skull are preserved in our skinning shed.
At the completion of your hunt, you will complete a legal hunting register and taxidermy register with all the species hunted and parts you have chosen to have exported. This will be signed by yourself, the PH, and the outfitter.
We recommend the taxidermy service of Splitting Image Taxidermy.
After your hunt, Splitting Image Taxidermy, will arrange the prompt collection of your skins, skulls and horns from us as well as copies of all hunting documents to start the taxidermy process.
Splitting Image taxidermy will contact you via email. You will receive an email from your client liaison, Melissa Mauer. Melissa will send you a stock list with all the species you wish to have processed. This list will be in accordance with the list you completed in camp with Kirabo.
Melissa, your liaison, will be available to discuss your taxidermy order, and answer any questions you may have. Our art director is a World Champion Taxidermist, and along with Melissa, will help you to design the perfect mount or trophy room.
The standard down payment for taxidermy is 50% of your total invoice. Splitting Image Taxidermy will communicate all payment methods and requirements.
Taxidermy is turned around in 10-12 months from the date of down payment and confirmation of all mounting instructions.
Splitting Image Taxidermy will communicate with you every 4-6 weeks for consistent updates on the progress of your taxidermy.
On completion of your taxidermy, the mounts will be securely crated and handed over to the shipping company. Splitting Image Taxidermy works with a preferred export agent for the past 18 years. You are welcome to request an export agent of your preference.

Option 2: Mounts done back home
If you decide to have your mounts done by your taxidermist in your own country, the following process will occur:
The same skinning and preserving process will be used as in option 1.
After the hunt, the ship and dip company will collect your skins, skulls and horns from us to start the dipping process.
According to international laws, all animal parts that are exported out of any country in the world, have to be treated with pesticides and specialized treatment, in order to prevent the spread of disease.
